Summary:

Winter has returned in full force this week, but things will be heating up in the gym at the Trent Athletics Centre this weekend! The Excalibur Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams play host to the U of T Varsity Blues and Ryerson Rams.

Up first on both days are the women’s games, and the Excalibur will need to be on top of their game if they are hoping to tackle this weekend’s opponents. The Varsity Blues (13-0) have not lost a game since February of 2015, including an undefeated season last year on their way to a National Championship. Saturday the Excalibur will be up against the Ryerson Rams (11-4) who have dropped a few games this season, but still sit 2nd in the Eastern Conference and are reigning the OUA Silver Medallist. “We are looking forward to hosting the top two teams in our division this weekend. Games like this are a great measuring stick for our team and create opportunities for our team to learn and grow from“, said Excalibur Women’s Head Coach Craig Barclay. “Last game we were able to stay consistent throughout the entire match and that’s what we are hoping to do again this weekend.”

On the men’s side, the matchup is extremely tough as well. Friday’s matchup against the Varsity Blues (5-7) will be one the Excalibur will look to capitalize on, as they continue to look for their first victory of the season. Giving Queens and RMC a strong push last weekend will hopefully have confidence built up for this matchup. Saturday night will have a rested Rams (10-5) team in town, and as last year’s OUA Silver Medallist, it is a tough game for the Excalibur on their second of back-to-back games.

Queen’s plays host to the top female university fencers in the province this weekend with the OUA Championships running Saturday and Sunday. Trent will send a full team down led by Women’s Foil Captain Jordan Kortko.
