Hosting 10 games over two days, the Women were at Justin Chiu and stood their ground and defended their home field. On Saturday, the team opened competition with a 23-1 victory over the Guelph Gryphons. The Excalibur were led by first year standout Leah Michel’s 8 pts (7G, 1A) and offensive engine Leah Ogilvie who also put up 8 pts (2G, 6A). Sunday the team would play two matches, with 22-0 shutout of the McMster Marauders, and later would come out on top of the Brock Badgers to round out the regular season. The win ensured that the Excalibur finish the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record, and they will head into next weekend’s OUA Championship tournament at McMaster University with eyes on their first Championship banner.
The Men’s Lacrosse team was one of four Excalibur teams that were travelling to Kingston this weekend, as they had a faceoff with the Queen’s Golden Gaels on Homecoming weekend. The Excalibur were not distracted by the home crowd, and quickly got down to business, scoring the first six goals of the game, and heading into half time 6-1. The Golden Gaels would take a few more in the second half, but the Excalibur did not slow down, and a 2 goal, 6 assist outing by Whitby’s Jeff Fernandes brought the Excalibur to 10-0 on the season. The Excalibur will match up in the final regular season games with a trip to Ottawa U Saturday night, before heading to McGill for what could be the deciding game for first place in the division.
The other teams in Kingston were men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s rugby. Men’s soccer had a big 2-1 victory over RMC Friday night, with the game winner coming in the first half by 5th year midfielder Will Horton. The men were facing off Sunday against Queen’s, and a big win put them just ahead of the UOIT Ridgebacks for the final playoff spot. The last game of the regular season is next Saturday at Justin Chiu, where the Excalibur will welcome UOIT in a game that will decide which of the two makes the playoffs.
