The Trent University Excalibur men’s volleyball team were a set away from earning their first OUA victory last night after falling to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 3-2.

In the first two sets, the Excalibur came out of the gate like a stampede of rodeo bucking bulls, unmounting the Varsity Blues and earning back-to-back 25-20 wins!

Emmanual Danso-Amofa lead the Excalibur offense with 8 kills, 1 ace, while Matthew Bergin stood strong on defense with 12 digs, 4 block assists.

Toronto then battled back to force a 5th and final set, and narrowly edged the Excalibur in a momentum changing 15-13 thriller.

“It was the first time we have been in a 5th set scenario” said Head Coach Chris Wilding. As a rookie squad still growing, this is an amazing learning opportunity for us moving forward.”

For the match, Trent registered 30 kills, 2 aces, 70 digs, and set a season high 16 block points!
