Trent Excalibur faced off against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in OUA women’s soccer action, Sunday, September 20 at Trent University, with Ottawa taking the win, 3-0.
Ottawa University opened the first half with a goal from Katherine Scott within the first few minutes of play, with a shot lobed into the top corner. The ball remained in Trent’s end for the duration of the first half, with Trent goalkeeper Emma Parken taking the heat from the Gee-Gees, but deterred them from adding more points to the scoreboard. Excalibur Jocelyn Blazey hustled ahead on a well-played breakaway, which was abruptly halted with an offside call, closing the first half in Ottawa’s favour, 1-0.
Both teams emerged refreshed after half-time, playing with even more intensity and determination. Ottawa upped their offensive force, but Trent’s defence solidly fought back against the oncoming pressure until Gillian Baggott of Ottawa scored with a perfect header off a corner kick. Dominique Falardido added another point for the Gee-Gees shortly after with a swift shot into the net, bringing the final score to Ottawa 3, Trent 0.
Trent Excalibur next faces off against RMC Wednesday, September 26 4 p.m. at Trent University.
