PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Trent Excalibur Varsity Women’s Volleyball team wrapped up their 2011-12 regular season with a 3-0 home loss to the Algonquin Thunder. The loss drops their record to 13-7 on the year.
The Excalibur have clinched a play-off spot, but their seeding and opponent will not be confirmed until the completion of the league regular season on February15. Trent currently sits in third place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) East division, but there are two teams only two points behind, and each team holds two games-in-hand.
All three sets in the match were close, but none went the way of the Excalibur, as they fell 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
In the final game of her career at Trent, Jessica Clancy (Woodbridge, Ont.) led the Excalibur with 10 points on five kills, four aces and one block. Sarah MacLaren (Renfrew, Ont.) also had a 10-point night as she counted eight kills, one ace and one block.
Algonquin’s Breann Wheeler led all scorers with 14 points (eight kills, two aces, and four blocks). Rachel Canavan added five kills and a game-high five blocks for the Thunder in the win.
The game marked the final regular season game in for both Clancy and Hayley Hancock (Barrie, Ont.).
