Soares noted “I choose Trent because it was the right fit for me, it felt like home. I know they have a great Forensics program and small school environment which I felt I would excel being a part of it".
Coach Andrew Vitaterna noted “Sydney is smart with the ball and is a valuable outlet for our defenders and midfielders. She manages to find the open pockets to receive the ball and then makes intelligent decisions when distributing to other midfielders or strikers. Sydney always looks over her shoulder before she receives a ball so she knows where she is going to pass to, and switches the play often”. He further noted “This year Sydney has been a vocal leader both on and off the field and has earned the respect of both teammates and coaches”.
Excalibur Head Coach Joe Muldoon noted that he had followed the Jets team since they participated in the Trent University Showcase. “Sydney impressed me from the first time I saw her at the Showcase Tournament, she reads the play well and her ability to turn with the ball at her feet while under pressure makes her a natural midfield player”. Muldoon noted that Soares “will be an important addition to the midfield as Trent continues to build the Women’s Varsity soccer program”.
