Teams celebrate successful food drive, exceeding goal to collect
equivalent weight of men’s heavy eight rowing crew
In support of the local Peterborough community,
the Trent Rowing Club collected a staggering 2,260 pounds of food for Kawartha
Food Share as part of their Thanksgiving food drive.
The result far exceeded the club’s
goal to raise 1,668 pounds of non-perishables, the equivalent weight of the
men’s heavy eight crew.
“The food drive was a tremendous
success. Our goal was more than surpassed and Trent Rowing was able to present
a donation of 2,260 pounds of non-perishables to Kawartha Food Share,” said Maija
Robinson, varsity rower and a third-year Biology student at Trent, who helped organize the initiative. “It
was absolutely a combined effort of the athletes, families, and community and
we are grateful for every contribution. We are already thinking about how to
make it better next year!”
To support the food drive, collection bins were set up across the Trent campus and throughout the Peterborough community. Members of the Trent Rowing Club presented their donations to Kawartha Food Share after Thanksgiving.
