Trent Rowing Club Collects 2,260 lbs of Food for Kawartha Food Share

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Teams celebrate successful food drive, exceeding goal to collect equivalent weight of men’s heavy eight rowing crew

In support of the local Peterborough community, the Trent Rowing Club collected a staggering 2,260 pounds of food for Kawartha Food Share as part of their Thanksgiving food drive.

The result far exceeded the club’s goal to raise 1,668 pounds of non-perishables, the equivalent weight of the men’s heavy eight crew.

“The food drive was a tremendous success. Our goal was more than surpassed and Trent Rowing was able to present a donation of 2,260 pounds of non-perishables to Kawartha Food Share,” said Maija Robinson, varsity rower and a third-year Biology student at Trent, who helped organize the initiative. “It was absolutely a combined effort of the athletes, families, and community and we are grateful for every contribution. We are already thinking about how to make it better next year!”

To support the food drive, collection bins were set up across the Trent campus and throughout the Peterborough community. Members of the Trent Rowing Club presented their donations to Kawartha Food Share after Thanksgiving.

Head of the Trent Results

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Last weekend the Trent University Rowing Club competed at the 40th Annual Head of the Trent Regatta here at Trent University.  Head of the Trent is the largest single-day regatta in North America and attracts crews from across the continent.

There was plenty of competition last weekend and Trent crews rowed well all day.  Both the Men’s and Women’s Heavyweight Four placed third in their respective races.  The Heavy Women were particularly pleased with their race, as the crew remains confident in their ability to contend for medals later on this season.

Also placing third for Trent was Robert Baldwin in the Heavy Men’s single.

In attempt to defend last year’s first place finish, the Heavy Men’s eight fell just short, finishing in second place, a mere 1 second behind Brock University.  However, the men raced a terrific race and will remain contenders for the rest of the season.

There was one first place finish for Trent, that coming from the Novice Men’s crew.  Sitting stern to bow in the boat was Shvawn Christensen (coxswain), Alex Ens, Alex Groenke, Brendan Hubbley, Nate Bartlam, Adam Sweanor, Cameron Wood, Mike Cox, and Brandon Kidd.
