The last regular season games were no challenge for Trent Excalibur men’s and women’s volleyball teams as they challenged the Fleming Knights on Saturday, February 13, with Trent taking both matches 3-0.
Both Trent teams were in superb form on Saturday afternoon, playing their hearts out with the home court advantage. The men started off, exhibiting superb form and excellent team work as they quickly rallied to a decisive 3-0 victory over Fleming (25-11, 25-23, 25-15). Honourable mentions for Excalibur go to T. J. Rodin with 15 points (6 kills, 7 aces, 2 blocks) as well as to Joshua Neadow who contributed 10 digs. This win helped Trent secure a 5th place standing in the Eastern Division of the OCAA with 13 wins and 5 losses for a total of 26 points.
The Excalibur women followed up the men’s match with another well-played triumph over Fleming. Trent women rallied up every ounce of their strength and skill for the last game of regular play and delivered with a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-18, 25-15). Commendable performances for Trent include Elise Hanson with 12 points (7 kills, 4 aces, 1 block), Leslie Schumacher with 11 points (5 kills, 6 blocks), and Alex Thompson with 10 points (7 kills, 3 blocks). Excalibur has worked extremely hard this season to secure a 2nd place standing in the Eastern Division of the OCAA with 16 wins and 4 losses for a total of 32 points.
Trent Women will progress to the OCAA Championships due to their 2nd place ranking. Trent Men need to win the quarter-finals in order to progress to the OCAA Championships.
