At Trent, both the men's and women's varsity rugby teams have a long tradition of greatness and deliver some of the most exciting, physical and entertaining competition on campus. The varsity rugby home games also attract a loyal contingent of spectators from the Trent and Peterborough communities.

The philosophy of the varsity rugby program at Trent University is to support each student athlete in their academic endeavours and also to engage them in the pursuit of excellence on the field. Apart from the obvious physical components of coordination, endurance, and balance, competitive rugby develops mental toughness, team-building skills, and other valuable personal attributes that play a role in all major walks of life.

At Trent, not only will you compete with the best, you will also be fully prepared to take on the world when you graduate.

Women's Training Camp

Monday, September 6th, 2010

The Trent Women's Rugby team ended their 2010 training camp with a pre-season trip to Montreal on the weekend. Coach Nancy Marcotte rested a number of veterans and had a good look at the large group of incoming players who will strengthen the team's chance to successfully challenge for first place in the Ontario universities' OUA's Russel division. Whitney Black scored one try and newcomer Lucy Foss scored twice in the first game against the very experienced Concordia Stingers on Saturday. Sunday against a weaker Bishop's university team, Katie Doughty led the team with three tries. Lauren Wizowski and rookie Danielle Julius-Williams both had two with singles added by Britt Douglas and rookies Julie McCuaig, Lucy Foss, Alex Godlington and Britt Douglas kicked three converts while rookie Jill Hartung added one.

After the game Coach Marcotte said “We're very happy with what we saw in Montreal. It was a  tough, physical camp and Concordia is one of the best teams in Canada. I was pleased with the way our rookies responded to the challenge. We're going to need that mental and physical toughness as we prepare for the season and the Nationals in November.” Assistant coach Craig Harris added that total team defence will be a focus for practices all this week for the players selected for this year's Excalibar. The team travels to McMaster for the season opener on Saturday.
