Trent Excalibur Men's Soccer's John Moncada Wins National Scoring Title

Record-breaking season as Excalibur set new wins and points records and return to postseason

The Trent Excalibur men's soccer team capped off a terrific 2025 regular season over the weekend, setting new program records and earning their first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoff berth since 2016.

Trent's John Moncada (Scarborough, ON) led the nation in scoring, topping both the OUA and U SPORTS leaderboards with 14 goals and 15 points in 11 games. His 14 goals also set a new Trent Excalibur single-season record, doubling the previous mark of seven set by teammate Leo Frans (Ottawa, ON) in 2023-24. Moncada's scoring prowess places him second all-time in Excalibur program history for career goals, a remarkable feat achieved in his first season with the green and white.

In his third year, Frans set a career high in goals, finishing tied for fifth in the OUA and seventh in U SPORTS with eight goals and 11 points in 11 games. With 19 career goals in three seasons, Frans now holds the top spot on the all-time Excalibur men's soccer leaderboard (Aaron Chia, 14 goals, 2015-19).

Playmaker Warren Chambers (Scarborough, ON) also played a key role in the Excalibur's attack, finishing tied for fourth in the OUA and sixth in U SPORTS with five assists, while contributing eight points overall in 12 games. Chambers now ranks fourth all-time in Excalibur history with nine career goals in his first two seasons.

The Excalibur finished the season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the OUA East Division but placed sixth overall after tie-breaking scenarios. The squad set new program records for most wins in a season with six (previous record of five), and points in a season with 19 (previous record of 17).

The Excalibur now turn their attention to the postseason, where they'll look to carry their momentum into Wednesday's OUA playoff matchup against the No. 8 U SPORTS ranked Carleton Ravens (6-1-5, third in OUA East). Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. in Ottawa. The game will be livestreamed on OUA.tv.
