Excalibur Curlers Sweep Competition at Home Invitational

Both teams secure first-place results at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club

The Trent Excalibur varsity curling teams had a successful weekend at the 2025 Trent Invitational, held on November 22 at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club. Both the men's and women's teams earned first-place rankings in their respective pools after steady performances on home ice.

The men's team continued their strong start to the season following a 4–1 showing at the Guelph Invitational. Trent opened with a 6–4 win over TMU Bold, which marked their second victory over TMU this season. They then defeated the Queen's Gaels 7–1 after six ends. In their final game, Excalibur Skip William Jewell faced his brother Nathan Jewell of the Guelph Gryphons. Trent earned a 4–2 win in that matchup and finished the day as the only undefeated men's team with a 3–0 record. Among the group, lead Peter Martyn stood out for his consistent setup play and strong sweeping throughout the day, contributing significantly to the team's success.

The women's team also had a strong weekend, finishing first in their pool while giving all six players time in the lineup. Led by Skip Lauren Rath, the team of Izzy McLeanToula PappasAdriana ClueMaddie Stewart, and Carsyn Bartlett went 2–0–1 in round-robin play. The women earned wins over the Toronto Varsity Blues (6–2) and the Queen's Gaels (6–4), and tied the Guelph Gryphons 6–6. With the best overall record and the lowest last stone draw (LSD) score, the Excalibur women finished first among the eight teams competing. Rookie vice Izzy McLean was particularly notable for her steady shot-making and thoughtful strategic input, as well as the positive presence she brought to the group both on and off the ice.

The Excalibur curlers will return to competition on January 3 and 4, 2026, at the McMaster Invitational in Dundas.
