Excalibur Women's Rugby Fight Hard to Gain Momentum for Home Opener
Team falls 17-10 to York University
The second game of the 2024 Women's Rugby season kicked off at yet another away game. In the first half, York opened the scoring with a try and conversion for the scoreboard. Excalibur and York were back and forth until the York Lions got a breakaway which resulted in a score of 12-0 for York at the Half.
Although on the hind foot, the women's rugby maintained their high collision success rate and scrum dominance in the second half. These factors allowed fifth-year Rihanna Rogers to secure the Excalibur's first points on the board with her first try of the season. In this high intensity game, York was able to secure their third try, making the stakes high for Trent within the last twenty minutes of the game. By keeping the intensity high, the Women's Rugby team made valiant effort during the final phase of the game, allowing first year winger Loryn Roberts to score her first ever OUA try. The final whistle blew with a final score of 17-10 for York. Although a tough loss, Rihanna Rogers was York's allocated Maiden of the Match, with the Excalibur's elected Maiden of the Match awarded to third year Emma Campsall for her fast line breaks and strong energy.
The Womens's Rugby team hope to bring a competitive game to their Home Opener against the University of Waterloo on Saturday, September 14 12:00 p.m. at Justin Chiu Stadium. Tickets are available at the gate for $10, with free admission for Trent students and children under 12 accompanied by an adult.
